Spur — Terms of Service
Effective date: July 4, 2026 Last updated: August 1, 2026
These Terms are a binding agreement between you and Spur Social Corp. ("Spur", "we", "us") governing your use of the Spur app and services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using Spur, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy and our Community Safety Disclaimer.
1. Eligibility
You must be 18 or older and legally able to enter a contract. You agree to provide accurate information and keep it current.
2. What Spur is (and isn't)
Spur is a platform that lets people discover and organize in-person, real-world activities and connect with venues. Spur only introduces people and surfaces plans — we do not host, supervise, or control the events themselves, and we are not a party to any meeting between users or between users and venues. You are solely responsible for your own conduct and safety. See our Community Safety Disclaimer.
3. Your account
You are responsible for activity on your account. Sign in uses phone verification and/or third-party sign-in (Google/Apple). Keep your device and login secure. Notify us of any unauthorized use.
4. Community rules
You agree to follow our Community Guidelines. Among other things, you will not: harass, threaten, or endanger others; post illegal, hateful, or sexual content; impersonate anyone; solicit or scam; or misuse the Service. We may remove content and suspend or permanently ban accounts that violate these Terms — including retaining a tombstone record to prevent banned users from returning.
5. Hosting and joining events
Hosts create plans; joiners request to join; hosts approve or decline requests. Meeting a minimum headcount marks an event "on." You choose which events to attend and accept the associated risks. We do not guarantee that any event will occur, that attendees are who they claim, or that any experience will meet expectations.
6. Deposits, no-shows, and fees
Some events — currently venue events — require a refundable deposit (currently CAD $20). Individual/peer events currently require no deposit. - A hold is placed on your card when a host approves your request. - The hold is released when you check in at the event. - If you are approved and confirmed for an event but do not attend (no-show), your deposit for that event may be forfeited. Forfeited deposits are split between Spur and the venue as described at the time of booking. - We charge participating venues a commission (currently ~10% of qualifying booking value). Users are otherwise free to use Spur. - We may change fees and deposit amounts with notice. Card processing is handled by Stripe under its terms.
7. Payments processor
Payments and identity verification are provided by Stripe and are subject to Stripe's terms. We are not responsible for Stripe's acts or omissions.
8. Content you post
You keep ownership of content you create, but you grant Spur a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute it within the Service to operate the platform. You are responsible for your content and must have the rights to post it.
9. Assumption of risk (in-person activities)
You understand that meeting other people in person carries inherent risks, including risk of injury, illness, loss, or harm. You participate voluntarily and at your own risk. You agree to take reasonable safety precautions, meet in public places when appropriate, and use the reporting and blocking tools. Full details are in the Community Safety Disclaimer, which is incorporated into these Terms.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Spur and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for the conduct of any user, host, venue, or third party, including anything that happens before, during, or after an event. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the past 12 months or CAD $100. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Ontario law.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Spur harmless from claims arising out of your use of the Service, your content, your conduct at events, or your violation of these Terms.
12. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or create risk to others. You may stop using Spur and delete your account at any time.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, and disputes are subject to the courts of Ontario, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
14. Changes
We may update these Terms. Continued use after changes means you accept them. Material changes will be notified in-app.
